ARM TORN OUT
TAXI DRIVER'S FORTITUDE.
P.A.
AUCKLAND, Oct. 17.
Remarkable fortitude was shown by a taxi driver, Arthur Raynor Lowe, who had his right arm dismembered above the elbow as a result of a blow from the overhang of a passing truck at Penrose last night. Lowe was driving two fares out to Otahuhu, and when the accident occurred he turned to his passengers before stopping his cab and casually remarked that his arm had been torn off. A tourniquet was applied to the arm, and Lowe was then driven back to the city by a passenger on an in~ coming bus which had been stopped. On his arrival at the admitting department of the Auckland Hospital, Lowe walked into the offi.ee unaided and gave partieulars of the accident before being taken to a ward. His condition late last night was considered to be fairly satisfactory, though he was suffering from shock. Lowe, who is a married man, aged 46, lives at Mt. Eden. V — =
