AUCKLAND, Sept. 29. Among the passengers by the Mararha:, which reached Auckland yesterday, wa® Colonel A. R, L. King-Mason, of the Tndian Arrny, Avho will be retiring on_ pension in March next. Colonel King-Mason, who intends to settle in New Zealand, is accompanied by his wife and three children. H© did not retiirn to^ his family in England after going on leave, but was joined by them at Ceylon, .all eoming on to the Dominion via Australia, "A great many people in India talk of New Zealand ancl many speak oi comihg here on retirement," said the Colonel. "Many think it a rine ladventure to come ,so far away to a country like this, Several have asked me to write to theni and let them know what the eonditions are llike out here, and I will do to, after I have had time to gain a fair impression of the country. I know that a, number of officers du© shortly tio retire would like to come liere, but the trouble is that many of their wives do not like the idea of having to do their own housework, and that j® tlie impression they have got — tliat domestic lielp here is very hard to get. In India, of course, there is a plentiful supply of cheap labor l'or the lionsehold, and women have very little worry in this regard." •
