THE MEMBER FOR THE WAIRAU.

To the Editor of the Marlborough Express. Sir, —As our member of the House of Represen* tatires, W. H. Eyes, Esq., does not consider it necessary, or his duty, to call a meeting of the electors, and explain his actions during the late session of the Assembly, I consider it time the people took the matter into their own hands, and called a meeting to consider his conduct. There has been a report that he intended calling a meeting, but no notice appearing in the papers stating the date of such meeting, it may not be his intention to call one until after the next session, and we are again sold. Were he in the right, and thinking he had served the district honestly, he would not allow one hour to have elapsed after his return, without announcing bis intention to meet the electors ; perhaps he thinks the people will forget all about it. Rut if I understand public opinion here at all, every day it is put off makes the case worse. Formerly his constituents did not trouble themselves, but trusted to all he had done; they not knowing, and caring less, what that all was. Times are changed now, and the people are beginning to to think for themselves. When Mr. Eyes was elected in opposition to Mr. Weld, either his proposer or seconder—l forget which—promised that, he would, if elected, meet his constituents often, Mr. Weld not having done so. How that promise has been carried out we all know, he never having called a meeting and explained his conduct, and it is my firm conviction he never will, until the electors force it upon him, A public meeting was called in his absence; the resolutions carried at that meeting virtually declared they had no confidence in him or the party he was supporting, the resolutions distinctly stating what our opinions were, and how we should like our member to-vote Mr. Eyes voted : directly opposite to our expressed wishes. Those resolutions remain unanswered ; therefore, sir, I and others imagine he pleads guilty, as they are .Unanswerable; consequently'the sooner a meeting is called the better. ahd if - tfae : electors are etui of the psme .opinion,. the only course- open to us is to call on him , to resign t and see if it Is not possible to get a member who #ill .support .measures that are to r the interest of the district, or else have no member. ' Had we been without a member this last session,! believe we should hare been a gainer of at least £6OOO per -annum -—as. if Mr. Eyes had, not voted for the Stafford . M inistry, Mr .McLean’s motion would have been! .carried, aid the Ministry dusted ; -Mr,,?«them , wonjdJiada 'sdso^time^t^. thatj the General Goveminent w .tJje neftvefir tp pay bis Honor’s dn’d \ the 1 ijastjejt; <^'.effiriili^sa3bies^ r let the Council dismiss the lot, letting the General Government take -the gaols and. police,; as in this ease, I have no dOubt we should get something ■ towards the Hoads, as against supporting so mauy officials in idleness.
