LATEST NEWS FROM POVERTY BAY AND PATEA.
A telegram in the Examiner dated Wellington, November 2nd, says A body of 150 men wh& volunteered at Auckland for the Armed Constabulary, arrived at Napier in the steamer Wellington, on their way to Patea, and are expected here to-morrow. The Maori King has expressed a determination to repel the escaped prisoners from the Chathams, should they intrude into his territory. Five hundred friendly natives and 22 European officers started last Friday to ascertain the-position of the enemy. There has been no disturbance in the district of Wairoa.
A meeting will be held at the Empire Hotel this evening, of the men who have returned from Patea, members of Lieutenant Buck’s company. They complain of the treatment they received from the Government.
An influential meeting of shareholders of the New Zealand Steam Navigation Company will be held on Wednesday, who will recommend that the company be wound-up.
