' He Jedonded an amendment moved by Mr Townshend, to the effect that the clerk write to the Lindhurst Board Btating that the Tutnrau Board was willing to co-operate. — Three I voted for the motion andfoar for the amend- I ment, namely, Messrs Muir, Townshend, * Young, and M'Carthey. The cha&mah remarked that the application at least would . do n© harm. ; .-.-■•■ Messrs Stewart, Holmes, and Denniston, of Dunedin, forwarded memo, of transfer of roadline through Mr Metcalf 's property. It transpired- that the road in question would ohly benefit a f member of the Board, Mr Dickie, who, in accordance with the statute, would have to bear the whole cost of closing the present road and op -ning the new one. This he expressed his readiness to do, and it was then resolved that all that was necessary to close the transaction should be done at once ; on completion tho road to be the property either of Mr Dickie or the Board, as the" former wished. ' - The Mataura Town Board forwarded copy of a resolution agreeing to expend LlO in erecting a bridge over the Waikana stream, at the boundary, if the Tuturau Board would agree to expend a like sum. — Mr Pollock said ■such a. bridge was not necessary. .The Town Board apparently proposed' to expend L2O in bridging a_ creek, the road beyond which was impassable. -' There was a good ford. He moved that tho offer be declined. — Mr Muir, who seconded the motion, said the expenditure wqnidfbe useless,; exceptinj£(iir the way of providing a carriage drive for the Mataura people.— Motion carried. Sonic time ago— on the 3rd of Arpril — the IV.sperty Tax Commissioner intimated that he would shortly forward a complete schedule of lands on which the Colouial Treasurer would pay rates under the Crown and Native Lands Rating Act. The clerk reported that this had not yet coma to hand, and he was instructed to institute enquiries. The following, accounts were passed f^^tf payment : — Francis Jack, timber, LI 5 7s 9o^H railway freight, L 2 6d ; Alfred Dolamor^J^ advertising, L7 Is 3d. .. Mr A. Gait, ssn., was granted permission to put a 8 wing gate on a road at his property.
