OMAKA ROAD BOARD.
Tri'.SliAV, XuVKMOKIt If). Till-: Board met at half-past eleven o’clock. Present —Messrs C. Redwood (in the chair), .Jackson, and Cook. The minutes of the previous meeting were read ami confirmed. CORRKSI’ON nr.NCK. A letter was read from -Mr. J. Burton, asking for an advance of L‘2o on his contract, and L.j for extra work in filling up holes between the top of High-street ami Murphy's Bridge on the Benwiek new road. The Inspector said -Mr. Burton was not untitled Hy his contract to what lie asked for, hut he had taken the contract at a very low rate. Mr. Cook moved and Mr. Jackson seconded that LlO be advanced on the contract, anti the matter of the L 5 be deferred. This was agreed to. Mr. Green wrote to the Board calling attention to the bail state of a bridge across a drain in the Dashwood Pass Road. The Chairman moved that a culvert lie placed on the line of the road, 18ft long, •2ft deep, and 3ft wide. Mr. Cook seconded the motion, which was agreed to. IXSI'KCTOIi’s HKPOIIT. The Inspector of Works reported that he had examined the Kemvick middle road with the view of ascertaining the best method of getting riil of the water. In his opinion the best plan of dealing with the matter is to acquire a strip of land, a quarter of a chain wide, along the north side of the road, from Parker's gate to Jackson's cross road, and cut a channel 18ft wide add 3ft deep along the south side of the road, and to raise the road with the stulf they obtain. The channel will have to be about 44 chains in length. If 30 chains are cut this summer, the remainder may be postponed for the present. The Inspector also reported that lie examined the Renwiok old road at the bend of the Oinaka near Renwiek, anti found that the river encroached about 10ft on the road, tie recommended the fixing, of three manuka crates about two chains apart, Idled with stones.
Mr. .Jackson said the road from Jackson's cross road to Kelly's bridge was in a very dangerous condition, but the state of funds would not permit the road to be put into a thorough state of repair, and lie was afraid that tinkering it up was of very little use. It was resolved that the Secretary write to the Lower Wairau Rivers Hoard requesting that body to erect the bank required at Melver’s bend. BUSINESS I'OSTTONKI>. A letter was read from M elver offering to do the work of impounding at Us per day when ordered by the Inapector. The consideration of the oiler was postponed until next meeting, as was also a letter from Mr. Sinclair, solicitor, stating that the Board could have the gravel pit on the middle road conveyed to them for L’2o, or could abandon it if they liked without being charged for the gravel taken up to the present time. ACCOUNTS. The following accounts were passed for payment —J. Batty, Lll 14s: J. I ait, LI ISs ; Furness and Boundy, 15s; Returning Ollicer, L 3 10s; Clerk County Council, onequarter’s salary, L 3 15s; Burton, advance on Middle Road contract, LlO ; J. Slattery, LIB Is. 4d. The Board then adjourned.
