TIRAU.

TENNIS. A highly successful and enjoyable tennis tournament was held on the Tirau green on Saturday afternoon. A number of players were present, including visitors from other clubs. Play took the form of a Yankee tcurnament, which was very strenuously contested. All four courts were in use and, as the defeated players retired from the game, great interest was .-.roused as- to who the final player in .he ladies' and gentlemen's finals respectively Would be. Mrs. Callaghan eventually proved herself to be the winning lady, with 2 J games'to he)' credit, and Mr. Ryan with 23 games, carried off honours among the gentlemen. AN ATTRACTIVE DISPLAY. A most attractive Christmas display is being made by Messrs. Rose Bros.. Ltd., the Universal Providers, of Tirau. The four lar/ro plate glass windows in f>-ont; of the shop arc most exquisitely dressed and are equal _to anything yet seen in the district. Passing into the emporium, gaily decorated and festooned, the first thing that meets the eye is a beautiful large green Christmas tree, laden |'with everything to delight the hearts of the children, consisting largely of Christmas stockings, kewpies, dolls, i and toys of all descriptions. A fea- ! tore of the tree is the fact that it is I illuminated with electric light, and the effect of this at night is very fine. Toys arc lavishly spread round in all directions in this department, and the children arc very loathe to leave it. Apart from this specialty, Messrs. Rose Bros, are carrying a big stock of the goods usually kept by them, including biscuits, tinned goods and Xmas delicacies of all kinds. There is a good assortment of fancy goods and toilet requisites, and in the confectionery department some fine presentation boxes of chocolates arc on view. Among other conspicuous lines are saddlery, including suit- cases and travelling hags, boots, ladies' and gentlemen's wearing apparel, drapery of every possible description, crockery, kitchen utensils, cutlery, silver ware; in fact., all articles both useful and ornamental requisite for the home. There is an exceptionally large range of goods suitable for Xm?s, New Year or wedding presents.—Advt.
