ON THE SCREEN.

"THE SCARLET CAR." /"The Scarlet Car," to be screened at Matamata on Wednesday, is a story by Richard Harding Davis, originally entitled " The Kidnappers'" and embodied in the " Scarlet Car " series which that master of adventure fiction wrote. The story is, of course, romantic, in keeping with the general style of the author, and Rawlinson's role is that of a very dashing young fellow who has the habit of getting pinched 30 times in 30 days for speeding, and the most fortunate habit of seeing through " false fronts" in other people about him. A crooked candidate with a wonderful "line" at the political meeting and a better line in the parlour, a girl :who falls for his line until a well-timed expose, and a number of other interesting human characters make up the figures of the story.
