EMPIRE SETTLEMENT.
CLAIMS OF UPPER WAIKATO. The invitation for the Empire Set-, tlcmcnt Delegation now in the Dominion to visit the Upper Waikato has been declined meanwhile, the UnderSecretary for Lands, Mr. J. B. Thompson, advising Mr. C. Lock, as chairman of the Tokoroa Progressive League, that time will not permit of the delegation including this district in its tour. Much surprise at this is expressed locally, in view of the big stretches of country here suitable for settlement and having ready access by road, rail. etc. Mr. Lock .has accordingly replied to this effect, and promised'that the local people will arrange to have the delegation taken round the district in one day if the Government will but include this territory in the itenerary.
