HOCKEY CLUB DANCE.
A JOLLY EVENING. A jolly dance was given by the Putaruru Ladies' Hockey Club in the Putaruru Town Hall last Wednesday evening. The interior was delightfully decorated with • greenery and streamers of black and white —the colours of the club—and it was a gay throng of young folk who comprised the element of joyous animation, as they danced to the strains of music by Mrs. J. Barnes (piano) and Mr. R. Savers (violin). Mr. A. E. BanBrown was M.C., and also assisted materially in making the evening such a success. The programme was not an ordinary one by any means, but was brilliant by reason of its inclusion of such laughter-exciting dances as the Cinderella waltz, etc. [n addition, a number of competitions were held, and were won as follows: Waltzing competition, Mr. Hill and Miss Hardy; balloon dance, Mr. W. Murphy and Miss Kimber; lucky-spot dance, Mr. 'N. Blain and Miss L.West; The final pageant, about 1 a.m., was the turning cut o r the electric lights To give place to the soft rays of Chinese lanterns, the streamers being then lowered vibratingly and showering confetti over the assembly as they danced the final rounds. Altogether the dance was one which far eclipsed most that have been held in this hall for some time past. Opportunity was taken by Mr. BanBrown, on behalf of the hockey girls, to thank those who had assisted in carrying out the arrangements, and on behalf of the club Mr. J. Rolfe acknowledged these thanks and also expressed the club's appreciation of Mr. Ban* Brown's present and past efforts as M.C.
' The prize for the balloon dance was specially donated by Mrs. G. W. Brown,'the other prises being provided by the club. / e=g
