Rollett, on behalf of the i Matamata County Council, waited 1 upon the Matamata Town Board on i Wednesday in connection with the i Board’s request for assistance fratn the Council with the lighting of Station road to Peria. He said that when Salisbury’s road was metalled Peria Tatepaycrs would not use the road in j tjie* vicinity of even tho present light. Thq matter affected the Peria ( riding and as riding member he was | qpite prepared to continue to pay a snare towards the present light. | * It was explained that it was proposed to remove flight, to the county boundary amj-the Board was asking the Countv Council to pay a halfco'rt of this light. The old argument <rf town v. country was introduced, it being stated that }he lights were to show the country people into the town. This was-met in retaliation: “Well, you want us In the town.’.’ Thcl amount in dispute vv«s 30s per.year. Mr. Rollett said he thought the light should be removed to the corner of Smith street.! < Mr. Bennett agreed, but thought a light neur Mr. Delaney’s property was also necessary. The chairman said in the first place the Councit had met the Board very fiiirlv in the matter of lighting. This should be taken Into consideration. It was pnying half the cost of the boun- ( dime lio-hts, i Mr. Delaney said Hint if the present tight; was shifted it would lenve ( a break of 25 chains. It. was decided to leave the mutter in tho hands of the Roads Committee , with a recommendation that the light be removed .to the corner of Smith street, and an additional light bo provided. _

There was good demand for the Jersey grade cattle of quality and the 54 offered averaged about £lO per head. Prices went ns high as £2O and several near this figure were sold. The largest buyer Was Mr. T. Thomson, of Waharoa. Others to purchase grade animals were Messrs. Butlei Bros., J. Shaw, W. M. Crabb. Frank Vosner, J. O’Laughlin, N. Delaney, M. Hardison, -C. Scelly, H. Slater and M. McQuaid. Jersey heifer calves (6) brought £G 10s per head. Tho sale could be termed a successful one as the figures mentioned were on the average but a few pounds below what Hie owner, expected, The fact was demonstrated that the farmers in toe district were seeking " blood.”
