MATAMATA SEWERAGE SCHEME

EXPLAINED BY ENGINEER. At Town Board’s Meeting. Mr. U. TV Worley, engineer to the Matamata Town Board, attended tin* Boai'd’s meeting on Wednesday night, in oydev that tlie sewerage proposals might be gone into. After being .formally welcomed by the chairman of tlie Board, Mr. Worley said he was there to explain any details in connection with the sewerage scheme that the Board might require. He Tad the details of the: schema with him and also tlie plans. Mr. Worley then laid the plans out for the members’ inspection, and a round-table conference ensued, many points of the scheme being illustrated and explained by the engineer. When quoting £18,500 as the estimated cost of a curtailed scheme, Mr. Worley was asked by Mr. Bennett whether his firm had furnished previous estimates for the work. Mr. Worley replied that his firm had submitfted an estimate of £IB,OOO to the Board on July 5, 1020, for the identical work, and the outlet as now proposed was 1000 ft-longer owing to having to move the position of the tank. It was remarked that some confusion of thought had arisen as to the amount to be contributed by the .Glaxo Co. towards the town’s drainage by it having been originally annoQneed that tho preliminary scheme Would consist of a main sewer from tho factory to the outlet, at an estimated cost of £14,000. and that a further sum of about £16,000 would be SjHnt in installing sewers in the more populated parts of the town. The first-mentioned estimate of £14,000 was only an approximate one submitted at.' a conference held between the Board and Messrs. Pacey and Gannon before the levels were taken and did not includb any reticulation.

Replying to a question as to What sewerage work his firm .had carried out. Mr. Worley stated that had had a wide experience, having designed and carried out the Eller Sue sewerage scheme at a cost of £12,000 as wqll as that of One Tree Hill, £30,000, Taumarunui £20,000, Paeroa £46,000, Mt.‘ Roskill' £47,000, Onehunga £20.000. as well as having also recently designed sch<;mej for Takamtna at an estimated cost.of £320,000, Ngftvuawahia £27,000s Morrinsvillc £‘lo.ooo. and many'smaller schemes. Tn discussing the present dav price of the pipes held bv the* Board. Mr. Worley;, stated that the same would '■w cost five per cent more than what Mmv were purchased for.' At the dose of th« consultation, a tmartv vote of thop.kß wt? passed. *m the motion'of Mv T/ivV. to Mr. Wovlpv for his afterdonce and lucid 'xplanntions.\ ;
