WORKERS’ DWELLINGS

.. Chamber l of Commerce Meeting A meeting convened by the above body was held in the Farmers’ Hall on Tuesday evening to deal with the subject of workers’ dwellings for Matamata. No less than twenty-tvo interested parties were present, and Mr H. W. Smales, secretary to the chamber, was elected chairman. The chairman explained the purpose for which the meeting had been convened, and called on Mr E. Gr. Clarke to address the meeting. Mr Clarke, who had given a lot of time to the subject, dealt very exhaustively with the intricate clauses of the Workers’ Dwellings Act, and explained very fully the working thereof. At the conclusion of the address no less than twelve names of applicants were handed in to the chairman, who will secure the necessary applicationforms, which when duly filled in will be forwarded to the Government by the Chamber of Commerce for urgent consideration. A vote of thanks to the chairman concluded a most enthusiastic meeting.
