PUTARURU.
The T.T.T. Co.’s yards are at present well-filled with timber, and its order books are also full. The difficulty is to get sufficient trucks to convey the timber away. Mr H. J. W. Scott, of Ngarua, has purchased a farm of 206 acros near Putaruru, and intends building on the property. Mr W. C. Hewitt has sold his farm of 303 acres at Lichfield to Mr John Vickery. A farm of 199 acres at Waotu has been sold by Mr J. Harwood to Mr M. Henderson. Messrs Renwick Bros., of Auckland, have undertaken the contract of carting timber from the Waotu mill to Putaruru. > An effort is being made to form a tennis club in Putaruru and a meeting is to be held shortly to consider the matter. Several residents are enthusiastic about the proposal, and from enquiries made it is believed the project will meet with general support. The promoters have the idea of converting the tennis club into a social club in the winter to arrange for regular winter entertainments.
Among the buildings in course of erection in Putaruru are houses for Mrs Henshaw, Messrs Howland, W. C. Hewitt and J. F. Scott. Other new buildings include a joiner’s shop, a draper’s shop and a garage. Several contracts are to be let shortly for houses in the township. The residents of Putaruru are suffering considerably as the .result of the bad state of the roads in the township. The road on the hotel side is in good order, but that on the opposite side is little better than a quagmire. The Matamata county employees filled in the hollows with the material removed from cuttings. Winter came on before metal could be laid. There is a particularly bad hole on the main road within half-a-mile from the post office that requires urgent attention.
Pntaruru is growing, and among its urgent requirements are a bakery, a hairdressing saloon, tea rooms and a fruit and confectionery business. Splendid opportunities are offering to various businesses in this progressive township.
