TIRAU.
Work in felliiig the plantation of pinus insignus trees on Mr Main’s property is nearing completion. Messrs Steele and Hemming have beeh engaged on the work for some months, and have felled and sawn about 500,000 superficial feet of timber. Messrs Steole and Hemming have purchased several other plantations in the district, and will he removing shortly to one of those. There is a steady demand for sawn pinus insignus by the large timber companies. Fairly large quantities are bought by the settlers in the district for building purposes. The late Sir Robert Lockhart’s estate of 1500 acres on the Cambridge road, within three miles of Tirau, has been subdivided and is being taken by a number of now settlers. Messrs Gardiner and Kinnoar have made a start with the metalling of a three-mile stretch of the Tirau-Catnbridge road. The metal is coming to hand from Waihi. A dwelling house of seven rooms is being erected for Mrs Marshall, of Tirau. There is considerable activity in the building line at Tirau. Besides two buildings in course of erection, several dwellings are to be built shortly for new settlers in the township.
