FOOTBALL.

The concluding stages of the Matamata Rugby Union's championship fixtures were reached on Saturday when Matamata. met and again easily defeated Patetere at Matamata by 22 points to nil, and Waharoa beat Wairere by 6 points to 5. Including the match awarded Waharoa by the union last week that team|and Matamata were level at the end of Saturday's play. A meeting of the union was held on Tuesday evening, Messrs H. Lewis, J. Pickup, F. Holmes and D. Morrow being present. An appeal against the union's decision re the Matamata-Waharoa match was lodged by Matamata and it was decided to submit the whole question to the Auckland Rugby union for its ruling. The secretary was instructed to endeavor to arrange a representative fixture for Saturday next with either the Cambridge or Morrinsville unions.
