VALEDICTORY.

Mr and Mrs F. W. Bentley. A very pleasant social evening was spent in the Town Hall on Tuesday evening, tendered to Mr and Mrs F. W. Bentley by the directors and suppliers to the Waikato Co-operative Dairy Companies and Matamata cheese factory. There was a large attendance and good music, supplied by Mr Darby's, orchestra (Mrs Darby piano, Mr W. T. Darby violin, Mr M. Bates cornet) with the assistance of Mr H. E. Jones (flute), contributed largely towards the success of the function. Messrs 0. V. Adlum and J. Pohlen were efficient M's.C.

Just before supper Mr Pohlen was called upon to make presentations to both guests. To Mrs Bentley he handed a handsome silver teapot, and to Mr Bentley a.solid leather travelling bag. In doing so Mr Pohlen referred to the excellent services rendered the suppliers by Mr Bentley during the past eighteen months as manager of the Matamata factory. In view of the amalgamation it was deemed no longer necessary to keep the factory open and in consequence the manager had been transferred to the Aka Aka factory. The speaker referred to the heavy responsibilities on the manager, and the worry often given him by suppliers. He said, however, that throughout- his term at Matamata Mr Bentley had shown that he was richly endowed with gentlemanly qualities and tact. The attendance that evening fully testified to the success which had attended him at Matamata, and by his popularity among the suppliers and residents. Mr Pohlen also paid tribute to Mrs Bentley, and wished both future prosperity. Mr Bentley suitably responded, thanking the suppliers for their splendid gifts and good wishes. Musical honors were accorded Mr and Mrs Bentley. During the evening songs were rendered by Mrs Farayher, and Messrs Baker and Yardley. Solos on the flute wore nicely played by Mr H. E. Jones. The accompaniments were played by Mrs Darby. At the conclusion of the evening the assemblage sang "Auld Lang Syne" and gave hearty cheers for the guests of the evening.
