TAIHOA.
VALEDICTORY. On the afternoon of Friday, May 30th, tho ladies of Taihoa met together in the Mangawhero hall to bid farewell to a much esteemed friend, Mrs S. Kemp. The afternoon being fine there was a good attendance, and with all the school children made a very merry party. Miss Hunt's music and singing was very much enjoyed by all. The school children also gave some nice little items, and recitations were given by Len Murray, David Gray and little Kathleen Shaw and a pianoforte solo by Edna Cnglington. The time passed all to quickly and after a dainty afternoon tea, Mrs Kemp was asked to accept a handsome silver mounted ebony hand mirror (suitably inscribed) as a token of love and esteem from her lady friends. The proceedings closed with the singing of "Auld Lang Syne." Miss Hunt, 8.A., who has been the guest of Mrs Gould for the past five months, left on Friday for Wellington, en route for Timaru, where she intends to spend a long holiday. In the recent competition for the best essay on the Matamata show the first prize has been awarded to Edna Criglington a pupil of the Mangawhero school.
