The Patriot. In the triangle film “ The Patriot ” the central figure is that of an American who is an exsoldier from the Philipines and who at the opening of the story is a gold digger in the West. William S. Hart plays the part and has never had a more congenial role. The picture shows him a passionately loyal American. But unscrupulous agents rob him of his mining claim an while he is away unsuccessfully trying to right the wrong his little son, who is motherless, dies. Embittered he begins to hate his country and goes ta Mexico where he joins an insurgent band which is going to attack the United States. He traitorously gives information to the American Army which will cause the major part of it to be absent when the insurgents attack the camp. But a chance meeting wifh a little child suddenly causes him to see the enormity of his action. The question of course is whether he will be able to get the main American force back in time to save the camp and its helpless refugees. The programme also includes first instalment of the serial “The Fatal Ring” and a Gaumont graphic. This is the programme for Saturday at Matamata.
