PUTARURU.

Messrs Meffat and Branden, of Hawera, have purchased 887 acres from Mr P. McKenna over the Waikato river from Pukcturua. The sale was negotiated by Mr R. Alcorn. Two offices and a shop are being erected near the corner of Kensington St. for Mr W. C. Hewitt. Mr W. F. S. Goodwin has disposed of part of his property on the Ovordale road, to Mr Main, of Tirau, and the balance to Mr Harris, of Hamilton. Tho Putaruru Farmers Saleyards Co. Ltd.f with a capital of £2,000 (400 shares at £5 each) has been registered. A further meeting of the provisional directors will be held within the next few days. Advantage was taken of the member for the district’s (Mr J. A. Young) visit on Tuesday to point out the position regarding: the police station. -Mr F. C. Barnett asked that tho amount of £9OO, provided on the Estimates, be expended on the erection of a house and police station. Mr Young noted the representations stating that he would write to the Minister for Justice pointing out the necessity for housing the constable in a departmental residence, and for a police station. Mr Cox (Atiamuri) also waited upon the member asking for his assistance in obtaining a Government survey of tne track through Native land to his block. He stated that he wished to build a bridge without Government assistance but could not do so owing to the road not being defined. Mr Young stated that he would approach the Minister for Native Affairs on the matter. Mr Young was escorted round the Putaruru township and expressed appreciation of the road works being carried out, and the general progress being made. Messrs Hill, Atkinson and Cox, the ©w.ners of about 56,000 acres at Atiamuri are carrying out extensivo works. A matter of about 5000 acres are being improved. It might bo explained that Putaruru is the natural outlet to this large block, being more suitable than Rotorua in every respect.

The property of 114 acres owned by Mr W. C. Hewitt on the Puketurua - Putaruru road has been disposed of to Mr Tongs, of Putaruru.
