MATAMATA TENNIS CLUB.
A function that had boon looked forward to for somo time was that field by the Matamata Tennis club on Friday evening last —a summer social. The fact that it was in the hands of the Tennis club officials was guarantee enough as to the manner of evening which would be provided, and consequently it caused no surprise to note a vory large gathering of young folk. Another great help was the fact that it was the first advortised dance held since the epidemic. That the social could not have been a greater success is the general opinion, and the innovation of dancing in tennis, or summer, attire was much appreciated. The music for dances was supplied by an orchestra of four instruments—Mrs Darby (piano), Mr Darby (violin), Mr Fisher (’cello) and Mr M. Bates (cornet) —and as usual, was much appreciated by dancers, as was also the floor on which much energy had been expendod. The ladies of the club have to be thanked for a very excellent supper, and the man nor in which it was dispensed. Special mention should be made of the secretary, Mr McDermott for his part in connection with the evening. He also acted, with Mr R. E. Burke, as M.C., both attending well to visitors, and keeping the function strictly to time-table. During the evening songs were delightfully rendered by Miss Myra Ross and Mr E. Hocken. Both were accorded loud encores. Extra dances were nicely played by Misses Green and W. Cotter, So successful was the evening that a wind-up social at the end of the season is being eagerly asked for.
