WAHAROA.
On the Bth inst, Mrs Robt. Hetherington gave an afternoon in aid of the local Red Cross funds. The rooms, lawns and verandahs were laid out for tea, music and competitions but owing to the very inclement weather only a few guests were able to be present. This, however, did not prevent the afternoon from being a distinct success financially as even those who were prevented from being present thoughtfully forwarded their contributions. These for the afternoon totalled about £3 10s. On the 18lh inst. Mrs Seager Mason gave a progressive euchre evening also for the Waharoa Red Cross society. After euchre supper was handed round, and the rest of the evening was spent in dancing. Miss Aileen Murray and Mr J. Thomsen senr., were the first prize winners for the euchre, while Mrs Swinburne and Mr W. Casey won the booby prizes. The contributions amounted to about £2 15s and Mr and Mrs Mason are to be congratulated on the excellent arrangements which they had made for the entertainment of their guests. Mrs Perry, of Te Aroha, is the guest of Mrs F. Wright.
