THE MATAMATA SCHOOL.
Additions Completed. During the past two or three months Messrs Burton and Adams, of Hamilton, have been busily engaged in making alterations and additions to the Matamata public, school, and have just about completed the work. The school now appears as a nice, compact, and well-lighted structure, quite different to the old building. Two new class-rooms, two teachers' rooms —one for the headmastei —and another porch, have been added, the whole under one roof on a uniform level. The class-rooms measure 24 ft. by 22ft. 6 inches, and 30ft by 22ft 6in, the former to be used as a science-room, and the latter for the infants. The science-room is fitted with all conveniences, such as sinks, drains, etc., and is in every way modern. The whole has been built to accommodate about 240 pupils, and there are at present about that number on the roll, so that the Education Department has followed its usual policy of building only for present pupils. However, the over crowding of the past will not be experienced again for some time, for both porches at a pinch will make suitable class-rooms. One thing especially noticeable about the school is the system of ventilation. By the installation of windows high up in the classrooms, a passage for fresh air is allowed. The new portion is also fitted with patent ridging for ventilation. The school is now one Matamata, and those responsible for the improvements, can be highly proud of.
