ROLL OF HONOR.
Lance-Cot*p. C. B. Beeson. Yet another of Matarriata's public men has made the supreme sacrifice for his Empire, the cablegram coming last week stating that Lance-Corporal C. Basil Beeson had been killed in action. Prior to enlisting Basil Beeson had been of much use to the public of the district, and by his genial and honest disposition had made a whole host of friends. He was very highly respected by adults, and was loved by the children whom he had taught as headmaster of the Okauia and Matamata public schools. General sympathy has been extended to his mother, brothers and sister, all of whom are well-known in the district. Lance-Corporal Beeson enlisted with the seventeenth reinforcements. He was born at Wairongomai, near Te Aroha, being the fifth son of Mrs A. Beeson, now residing at Remuera. On approaching manhood's estate he entered the teaching profession, and after teaching in Auckland became headmaster of Okauia, where he was for a number of years. He was also headmaster at Matamata for some months. He took a very keen interest in church matters, being a layreader for six years and superintendent of the Matamata All Saints' Sunday school. Basil was also keen on athletics being a good footballer and tennis player. He was a member of the Wairere Rovers team (Okauia and Turanga-o-moana). LanceCorporal Beeson has three brothers serving with the colors, Sergeant-Major A. V. Beeson, recently returned invalided, Private E. S. Beeson in Aviation corps, N.S.A., and Corporal G. I. Beeson, N.Z.F.A., now in training at Featherston camp. Basil was a brother to Mr E, Beeson, of " The Towers." The loss to the district is a great one.
