THE WIMMERA HEROINE.
Address Presented. Whilst canvassing in connection with the Queen carnival campaign Mr P. Quinlan stated definitely that the people of Taihoa intended to present an illuminated address to their queen, Mrs Gould, in honor of her bravery and devotion at the time the Wimmera was sunk off the North Cape. He also stated that each subscriber to the queen's candidature would have his or her name included on the list of signatories. The promise was fulfilled on Friday night 'at the winding up social in connection with the campaign. There, as chairman of the committee, Mr Quinlan presented the handsome illuminated address in the presence of about 200 people. It contained between 300 and 400 printed names, signed for by the chairman, Mr P. Quinlan, and secretary, Mr J. E. West. The address was an excellent work of art, well and fittingly worded to refer to the old lady's heroic conduct on the occasion mentioned. The subscribers deeply appreciated her as a brave, unselfish self-sacrificing lady. The presentation was accompanied with cheers for the " Queen of the Seas." Mr M. Gould briefly responded on behalf of his mother.
