PUTARURU.

CHILDREN'S QUEEN CORONATION. The public hall was packed on Friday, August 30th, on the occassion of the crowning of the successful children's queen, little May Becca. Miss Ibbotson presided at the piano and played the Coronation March. The stage of the hall was draped to represent Westminister Abbey. Over 40 children took part in the procession, headed by 10 flower girls tastefully dressed. Then came " Peace," followed by America France, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Belgium, Italy, Japan, China, Lord Chamberlain, Trumpeter, Lord Chancellor, Mistress of Robes with train bearers, Queen's body guard, the successful Queen and train bearers, pages, soldiers, sailors. The procession received quite an ovation. After the Queen was crowned a number of those present received Knighthoods, including W. Ibbotson, Knight of the Pump; F. C. Barnett, Knight of the Steam Roller ; C. G. Allan, Knight and Protector of the Fishing Rod. The knighting caused great amusement. After the ceremony the Queen held a levy. The latter part of the programme consisted of " Beauty and the Beast" played by the children. The funds will benefit to the extent of £SO. The whole production was arranged by Mr and Mrs Rolfe. The proceedings concluded with a dance.
