WAIOMOU.

A social and dance was held last week in the Waiomou school in aid of the Okoroire Red Cross. The school was was prettily decorated by the ladies. The social was well patronised, people coming from Tirau, Te Poi and Hinuera. After supper was partaken of the gentlemen were auctioned, and bought by the ladies for the next dance. Mr Goodwin'"acted as auctioneer, and surprised everyone by his businesslike way in handling the bids. The sale caused great amusement, and there was keen competition for some of the gentlemen. During the evening a canary, donated by Mrs Malcolm, was sold quite a number of times, and realised over £4. It was eventually knocked down to Mr Callighan. The proceeds of the evening (£18) was considered very satisfactory for so small a district.
