TURANGA-O-MOAMA.

FANCY DRESS BALL. Through threatening weather there was not as large an attendance at the Turanga-o-moana fancy dress ball, on Tuesday, as was expected, but nevertheless a profit was shewn, and a most enjoyable evening was spent. The floor was in perfect condition for dancing, while the music supplied by Mr and Mrs Darby and Mr J. Cumming was simply delightful. In connection with the latter Mr H. Harding specially referred to the untiring services being rendered to all the queens throughout the campaign by the musicians named. His remarks were greeted with cheers. Mr C. Kennington was a most capable M.C., keeping the ball rolling well. A dainty supper was served by the ladies at about midnight. The announcement was made during the evening that Mrs D. Clark, Miss Lee and Messrs T. Davieson and Mr Stubbings had tied in the competition for a thermos flask. In the draw Mr Davieson was successful. A sheep donated by Mr W. Egan, was won by Mr Montague, who it back for sale on behalf of the Blue queen. Voting of the dresses resulted in Miss A. Harding obtaining first prize for ladies, as " Spanish dancing girl," and Mr W. Lee as "Indian," for men. Among those noticed in fancy costume were: Misses A. Maisey, as Ivy; M. Lee, England and France; A. Lee, France; M. Arnold, cards; N. Ross, Bohemian girl; Simpson, Red Cross nurse; A. Harding, Spanish dancing girl; and Messrs H. Sutherland, American stockman; C. Strong, nigger; Griffiths, darkie; and W. Lee, Indian.
