DIVISION OF RIDINGS.
immediate Action Advocated. When the question of the division of the ridings was brought up for discussion by the Matamata County council at the special meeting on Thursday, the chairman said he understood that Cr. Banks was against immediate sub-division, prefering rather to wait to see where the proposed dried milk factory was to be erected. Continuing, Cr Anderson said he originally was not in favor of a division on account of the difficulties to be overcome in dividing fairly. If the division was to be made he wanted to know where he was, for there were roads which needed urgent work. Crs. Pohlen and Stopfotd were in favor of immediate action. Cr. Banks gave instances of where roads were carrying more outside traffic than that of the settlers in the riding. He thought the question might well be left for another twelve months. Cr Barnett endorsed Cr. Banks’ remarks, stating that the district was now undergoing many changes, in twelve months time matters may be more settled. Cr. Rollett said the people at his end of the Putaruru riding were very anxious to see the division made as soon as ever possible. It was later arranged that the Putaruru members should confer with the engineer on the matter of the division of the riding ( in an equitable manner. It w T as explained that the whole matter would take some time to settle but is to be gone on with with the greatest expedition.
