OBITUARY.

We regret to have to record the death of little Joyce Harding, daughter of Mr W. F. Harding, of Turanga-o-moana, which took place at the Hamilton hospital on Saturday. The little one was taken to the hospital on Saturday morning, as a suspected diphtheria case. The journey over affected the child greatly, and death occurred late on Saturday night. The funeral took place at Matamata on Tuesday, very many residents from throughout the district following the cortege. General sympathy has been extended to the bereaved parents and family.

After a very long illness borne* with great fortitude, the death of Mr Peter Berkhout, son-in-law of Mrs E. Kilbride, occurred at the latter’s residence on Tuesday.

It is but thirteen months ago that Mr Berkhout left Matamata halo and hearty with his bride to take up his residence in Auckland. A few months afterwards he was attacked by the greatest scourge of humanity —consumption —and was taken to a hospital. Little could be done for him, and he returned to Matamata five months ago. The deceased leaves a widow and a little baby daughter to mourn their loss. Much sympathy has been extended by many friends to the young wife in her sad bereavement. The funeral takes place to-day (Thursday).
