BASKET SOCIAL

Nearly £SO Biased. A most enjoyable basket social in aid of the Queen carnival campaign was held in the Matamata hall on Thursday last. There ■was a good attendance, and all entered well into the spirit of the proceedings. The music by Mrs Darby (piano), Mr W. T. Darby (violin) and Mr J. Gumming (cornet) was all that could be desired. The credit for organising the function belongs to Messrs W. Egan and J. Pohlen. During the evening a number of beautiful well-laden baskets were disposed of by Mr B. C. Taylor, the honor of raising the largest amount (£5) going to Mrs W. Hope. Mr P. Going was the purchaser. Other baskets brought £3 and over, and when the whole was totalled it was found that over £4B had been realised from the sale.
