RED CROSS SOCIAL
Substantial Sum Realised Although the All Saints' Girls club was formed but a few weeks ago, the members took a very early opportunity of adding to their previous individual patriotic efforts, by making arrangements for a social evening in aid of Red Ci'Ol-s funds: and, these arrangements were entered on in no half hearted manner. The object, right from the time the project was first mooted, was firstly, to realise a substantial amount of money, and, secondly, to provide an evening which would be that enjoyable that it could be repeated at a later date. In their efforts the ladies had the loyal assistance of many residents in respect of donations, such as provisions, music etc., so that the expenses would amount to as little as possible. Among those who contributed in this form were Miss North, Miss Cumming. Mr and Mrs Kelso, and Messrs J. Pohlen, A. K. Weeks, W. Clark, D. McKenzie, J. Draper, S. Neomes, R. Walton, W. Egan, Stewart and Co., E. C. Banks, P. C. Ingham, and W. Hope. Although the night for the function—Friday last—was wet, it made little or no difference to the attendance, so well had the affair been worked up, and when proceedings commenced the hall was more than comfortably full. The floor had received a special preparation for dancing, and the first waltz, to the music of Mr Ingham, was an indication of the enthusiasm from then until the finish. Little more can be said in this respect than that the programme, both from a dancing point of view, and with respect to the tableau, (which was all too short), the songs, recitations and competitions wasideal. The social secretary, (Miss S. A. Storey) the club secretary (Miss A. Neal), and the club members did their ardous work exceptionally well, and . are deserving of high encomiums. They were ably assisted in having two such excellent masters of ceremony as Messrs R. and' W. Hope who carried out their duties most unselfishly, and who were much better than the ordinary "capable Ms.C." The programme (without the dances) was as follows: —Tableau, by Hinuera children, under the direction of Miss Ring; Miss Tumwald, Bong; little Miss Heaps, recitation; little Miss Noakes (Hinuera) song; Miss Cumming, song; Mr Ray Blennerhassett, song. For the tableau the stage was nicely decorated with palms and ferns by Miss Storey, which, with colored lighting, and splendid actions and singing of the children and principal, made up an exceptionally good item. The hall presented an especially brilliant scene having been beautifully decorated by the Misses Kusabs and Turnwald. A guessing competition was won by Mr J. Findley, with Mr A. B. Jaggers second. The nett profits amounted to £ls 15s, which will be handed over to the Matamata Red Cross branch-
