ON THE SCREEN.
“ Richard the Brazen.” For plain, everyday resourcefulness, the palm must be handed to the hero of “ Richard the Brazen,” the hero of the Greater Vitagraph drama to be screened at Matamata on Saturday next. He saw a beautiful girl in an English chop-house, and from that meeting arose a chain of adventures of the most exciting kind. Lord Croyland, an English diplomat in charge of an important munitions mission to America, is seriously hurt in a motor accident and “ Richard the Brazen ” takes his place. Posing as an English nobleman he uses an eyeglass with immense effect. His courtship goes well, until he finds that the girl is involved with a scoundrel who is trying to blackmail her, and the earnestness with which he rushes into defend her soon lands him in dire trouble. The scenes are laid both in England and America, and the settings are of the most elaborate and costly description. Besides a 1000 ft comedy, a Pathe Scenic and Gaumont Graphic, the programme includes the fifth instalment of the great detective serial “The Black Box.”
