PIAKO COUNTY COUNCIL.
April Meeting. NGARUA ROAD. Mr Crawshaw on behalf of the settlers offered if the council would supply the grader the settlers would find the horses and labor to put two miles of the road in order. If the man could instruct them how to work the grader they could do without his services. The council was also asked to lend a plough. Application granted. DIAGONAL ROAD. Mr Crawshaw asked the council to open up the Diagonal road to connect with the Kereone-Mor-rinsville road. As it was at present, settlers from Ngarua had to go round via Walton or Kereone. There was a ford across the river which could be crossed. On the Te Aroha side of the river there was a road, a chain and a-half wide. This all went through one man’s property and he was prepared to buy the extra land. There was only one place, about a chain, which required formation. The total distance was about 44 chains. On the other side there was only a few chains formation to connect with Campbell’s road. Cr Smith supported the proposal pointing out the great benefit it would be to the settlers. The chairman: I suppose one idea of the road is to invite a bridge in the future. Mr Crawshaw : We are getting the thin edge of the wedge in. ' The engineer is to be asked to report. WAIWHERO DISTRICT. The County solicitor read the agreement between the Council and the Hungahunga Drainage Board regarding the Waiwhero district to which the seal was attached.
