A Urewera native woman on visiting a Gisborne tea-rooms for refreshments the other day, noticed her image iu a full-sized mirror, and straightway went up to Bhake hands and rub noses. Her face came into contact with the glass, and she proceeded up the stairway in disgust, remarking iu her native tongue of the marvellous works of the pakeha. The incident caused some amusement iu the establishment. An improvement that will bo appreciated by all railway travellers is at present being affected to the Mor-rinsville-Itotorua section. For years the dust nuisance has been more in evidence on this section than perhaps any other section of railway iu the Dominion, and this was due to the light pumice sand used. Mr S. Sellars, Inspector of Permanent Way, has been busily engaged with a fairly large staff for some time in replacing this pumice sand with scoria, and he hopes to have the whole length completed by March 31. At present a quarter pf a mile a day is being completed.
