ON THE SCREEN.
Paws of the Bear. The following is the story of the star drama to be screened at -Matamata on Saturday next. In Belgium, at the outbreak of the war, Olga Raminoff shoots at a German general when the enemy enters the town. Ray Rourke, an American traveller, gives her the protection of his name, but this suffices not. Both are sentenced to death. An aeroplane of the Allies saves the day for them. Later, Ray meets an old college chum, Curt Schreiber, who is in the Service of the German Government. Schreiber has important papers to be delivered at Washington and he gives them in Ray’s care as he knows he would be searched by Olga and her companion worker, Drakoff. Olga beseeches Ray to give them up for her sake, but his word to Schreiber is sacred. Nearing America Ray tells her that he will make no effort to return the papers to Schreiber and moreover that if she marries him he will tell her all about it. Married, they settle on his estate, Schreiber is a visitor. He leaves suddenly with a borrowed suitcase, evades the subordinates of Drakoff and boards the train. Discovering the papers under a label on the suitcase, Olga is content to let the matter drop. Two comedies (Keystone and 8.D.), and a Gaumont Graphic will complete what promises to be a most excellent programme.
