Ramphal in Samoa
The Commonwealth Secretary General, Mr Sonny Ramphal, was in Western Samoa recently for three days.
He arrived on February 6, enroute for the Commonwealth Heads of Government regional meeting in Sydney, Australia. While here he held talks with the Prime Minister, Tupuola Efi, and members of cabinet.
On February 8 he was the guest of honour at luncheon hosted by the general manager of the Western Samoa Trust Estates Corporation, Aumua loane. Following the lunch the
chiefs of Vailele presented the traditional sua to Mr Ramphal. In a short speech in reply Mr Ramphal said that a Western Indian expression had it that a man should not be too young or immature to enjoy some of the experiences of the world. He assured the chiefs that he was far from being too young to enjoy the experience of visiting Samoa.
He told the chiefs that the Commonwealth Secretariat based in London was committed to assisting its members, and it was at the service of Western Samoa.
