MANA LETTERS

Friends, — 1 teach at Mana College in Porirua. 1 am enclosing a contribution to Mana newspaper. I bought the paper, two subscriptions, and have displayed it on the classroom wall. I’ve also persuaded the school library to buy a subscription. The Polynesian pupils are delighted with it. It would be very good indeed if some articles were directed at young people. Ruth Cheke , Wellington. Friends, — My humble apologies for not writing sooner. Congratulations! I think Mana will be a great success. I am honoured to contribute to the cause and am looking forward to the next edition. Kia kaha e te hoa, taihoa ake nei maku e tuku atu he korero mo ta tatou pepa. Kei te aroha atu. No reira, kia manawanui, ma to tatou Kaihanga e manaaki, a arahi hoki. NA MARAMA TAREI Kawerau.

Friends — Congratulations to you for getting this newspaper going in the Maori and other Pacific Island languages. 1 am anxious to receive copies of this newspaper. May it continue to develop, and best wishes. Kia ora koe — He nui aku mihi ki a koe mo te timatanga o te nupepa i te reo Maori o Aotearoa, me nga reo o te Moana-Nui-a-Kiwa. E hiahia ana au kite mau mai i te pukapuka na. He ora pai ki to koutou nupepa. Na to koutou mokai, J. FLETCHER Christchurch

Friends, — Enclosed is my subscription to. Mana. I am delighted to see its appearance and hope that it receives wide support. All good wishes. Jim Irwin, Dean of Maori and Polynesian Studies, Knox College, Dunedin. Friends, — Congratulations on the launching of Mana. This is probably the first ever periodical in multiple Polynesian languages. We hope that it will be distributed as widely as possible in the islands as well as New Zealand as it has the potential to be one of the few media providing some effective linkage and building awareness of common interest throughout Polynesia. This could perhaps be helped even more if you are able to include up-to-date news from each of the Pacific communities in the islands as well as in New Zealand. With very best wishes for Mana's success. R.G. Crocombe, Director, Institute of Pacific Studies. Marjorie Crocombe, Director of USP. Fiji, Extension Centre. University of South Pacific, Fiji. Marjorie Crocombe is editor of ‘Mana' the Journal of the South Pacific Creative Arts Society. We regret not having acknowledged the prior existence of this journal and recommend it to our readers. Il can be obtained from the University of the South Pacific, PO Box 1168, Suva, Fiji.

Tena koe — Tangihia nga mate ote Iwi, Tena Koutou Katoa. 1 have received my copy of Mana and anything that would benefit ourselves and the Polynesian poeple is worthwhile. 1 can see the paper as a tremendous step forward in that it would help ourselves to communicate with each other. I saw the T.V. programme advertising the paper and the support coming from the church groups, etc. I hope that they will not object to a few home truths about the vicitimi?ation of our Maori people in al! walks of life. 1 am sure that the paper will serve an important part in the life of the Polynesian people of this country and 1 wish it every success. Sincerely, EVA RICKARD Te Kopua Rd, Raglan
