In the Magistrate's Court on Saturday W dter Williams, chairman of the Inangalma Council, was charged on the information of a ratepayer of the county with a breach of the 73rd section of the Counties Act, 1876, in having: voted on a motion awarding himself a salary of <£*2oo per annum. The Chairman give both his original and casting vote for the motion, and these facts were not denied. The Magistiate ruled that the Chairman, in so doing, had rendered himself liable to th« penalties provided for councillors voting j upon a motion in which they have any interest apart from an interest in common with the public, and ftned defendant five guineas and declared his seat tor the riding of Antonio yacant.
