THE MINES.
(From our Mining Reporter.; Friday, May 22. United Alpine.—Work in thecompy's mine, aud in connection w th their operations generally, is now concentrated ouso lew places, that there is little to be said, and consequently, long reports are unnecessary. Inside No. G level, Nos. 4, 5, 0, and 7 stopes, are being wreught from the north end on good faces of stone, with a little more mullock than usual showing, and the stone coming down se easily in some places, as to necessitate the use of face-boards. The mill is at present being j supplied from these four faces. There is one noticeable feature in connection with the progress of opening-up this block, and that is, the marked improvement in the quality of the stone. The last two week's crushings speak lor themselyes and will make the general cleaning-up at the end of the mouth show up handsomely. The completion of repairs and new work in the main filling-in rise is being pushed ahead with, aud good progress is being made there. Trilmtors above No. 4 still blocking-out on their leader, and have a good sized pircel of stone to grass. The shoot at No. o is being re-lined with red pine blocks, nine bv twelve inches, and six deep. The former were of black birch and not as durable as w s s expected. Battery crushing away steadily, and reducing close on 200 tons per week. L NiTivD Italy.—No change here, except that another of the party is incapacitated through an injury. Lea.ler keeps same thickness and good quality. Decent parcel to grass, ready for crushing. Tyr Connull.—Stopes, No*. 8 4 and 5 being pushed along the block on leader. Stone small, but showing exelleat gold. Extension of Eight Mile road will euable this company to crush. , Crcesus. —Tributer blocking-out above i No. 2 level, and stone varying between 1 and 2 feet thick.. Crushing was started last Tuesday, and for the time running, the plates are showing up wefJ. Maruia. —Inside work not commenced yet; the tribute party being engaged erecting camps, and getting a supply of mining timber, t Lyell Creek Extd.—Contractor making fair headway; an improvement having f taken place in the formation being driven s through. A change of country, and the r striking of stone, might bring this piece of s solid enterprise into prominence at any s moment.
