The regulation forbidding women to enter hotel bars after a certain hour was considered, and the following resolution was passed:—“That the Canterbury Women’s Institute emphatically protests against the special prohibitive restrictions imposed upon women by regulation under the War Regulation Act. 1916, regarding the entering of publichouso bars; it objects strongly to tho differentiation in the treatment of the sexes, and considers that if danger lurks in and about hotel bars the fair thing to do is to close them to everyone. If this cannot be done, and as the object aimed at is ti e health of the community, then there is greater need to prohibit their use by men, a restriction equally possiblo under the Act.” Addresses on “Conscription” were given by the president and secretary. It was resolved to press for the initiative and referendum on all public questions of social and political importance.
