CALL FOR MEN.

CHRISTCHURCH AREA. THIRTEEN ENLISTMENTS YESTERDAY. Thirteen men signed on in the city yesterday, the list including the following names:— John C. Jack Keating, G.P.O., labourer. KAIAPOI AREA. THIRTEEN ADDITIONAL ENLISTMENTS. During tlu> past two days thirteen enlistments have been received at the Kftiapoi area headquarters office. The Christchurch quota for the Twenty-first Reinforcements left for camp last night under Captain F. H. Salter and Sergeants-Major Ross and Adams. On the roll the draft was overstrength although four short of the. required mounted complement, and as one of the mounted failed to attend that branch was five short. All other arms paraded actual strength so that exclusive of non-commissioned officers, which were one over-strength, the draft was five short. Beforo the men loft the Barracks for the station they were addressed by the Mayor (Mr H. Holland) and Colonel Cfiaffey, Officer Commanding the Canterbury Military District. Cheers wore given for the speakers and the men tnen marched through the streets headed by the C.D.C. Band and Corps and tho band of the Ist (0.1. C., Mounted Regiment. At Ashburton yesterday afternoon there was a largo gataering to bid farewell to tho Ashburton quota of the Twenty-first Reinforcements. Tho men and their friends wore hospitably entertained by the ladies of the combined districts of Sealield and Pendarves. While tho guests wore seated at tho tables brief addresses wore delivered by Captain A. N. Oakcy, of Timaru, the Itev W. C. Blair, of Wakanui, and tho Rev W. T. Todd, of Itakaia. The Mayor (Mr It. Galbraith), who presided, warmly thanked the soldiers on behalf of tho town and district, and then called for threo cheers for tho ladies of Seaficld and Pendarves and for the men who were leaving for the training camp. Threo cheers wore also given for the lads at the front, and tho proceedings terminated with tho.singing of the National Anthem. Hcnded by the combined Garrison and Salvation Army Bands, the men

marched to the station where there was a large gathering and tho recruits were given a most enthusiastic send-off. Following are tho names of those who answered the roll call at tho Defence office:—

TEMUKA AND GERALDINE. Notwithstanding that tho Temuka reciMits of tho Twenty-first Reinforcements were to be given an official send-off at Geraldine, a largo number of residents turned out yesterday at Temuka to give the men a parting cheer. About 1. p.m. a procession, headed by the Temuka Brass and Pipo Bands, marched through the principal street, where motor-cars were awaiting to take the men .to Geraldine. The following are the names of tho men who left under the charge of SergcantMajor Husband: —F. Guimard, T. RO’Connor A. Cairns and H. Gillom. At Geraldine the twenty ears containing the Temuka men and their friends, accompanied by the Mayor (Mr A. Frew) and Mr Gunnion, were received at tho town boundary by tho Mayor of Geraldine (Dr Hislop) and Major Kennedy, and the procession, headed by. the Temuka Pipo Band anu the Geraldine Brass Band, marched to tho Drill Hall, whore the men a.nu their friends were entertained at afternoon tea. during which songs were given by Messrs Cox and Orchard, of Christchurch. Speeches wore made by the Mayor of Geraldine, tho Moyoi of Temuka, and Mr T. Gunnion, and a procession was formed, headed by tho bands, which marched between lines oi school children waving flags, to the Bank of New Zealand corner, where the men and their friends entered cars and proceeded to Orari. At Oran brief speeches were made and tho men entrained amidst cheers.
