PARISH CHURCH BURNED

Suffragettes, using inflammable liquids and explosives, burned the East Lothian parish church at White Kirk, erected in 1297. It contained priceless old furniture, and this, with its historic Bible, was destroyed. • Enormous slabs of stono were dislodged and shattered. In the suffragette assault caso, Mary Lindsay, tho defendant, stated that although she mistook Lord Weardale for Mr Asquith, she was not prepared to apologise, becauso, though Lord Weardale had not so much power to torture women, he was equally blameworthy.' Men torturing women in tho twen-. tieth century ought to be thrashed. In reply to the Magistrate, pointing out that Lord Weardale was an old man, she said, “ All the more 6hame.”
