[Pm Press Association.] WANGANUI, February 24. • The incoming nortn train and an outward-bound goods train collided 1 at the Wanganui station at 8.30 tlus evening. The frontal gear of both engines was damaged, the cowcatcher of one locomotive being doubled right under the bogey wheels and tlie engine lifted off the rails. The goods train was able to back away. The incoming train was a long one hut there were few passengers, and these sustained more fright than hurt. The collision is attributed to a shunter’s mistake. YOUNG WOMAN MISSING. A young woman named Mary Goulding of Uxbridge, went out on horseback on Monday night, to bring in the cows from the Waitaki riverbed. She did not return, and searchers went out and found the horse, with the saddle wet. It is supposed that the horse got into a deep part of the river and that Miss Goukhng was washed oft and drowned.

SUDDEN DEATH AT MOTUN.AU. Mrs Eliza Catherine Gibb, wife of Mr J. L. Gibb, farmer, Motunau, died unexpectedly on Monday. Dr Little, who had been summoned to attend her, was not able to give a certificate as to the cause of death, and an inquest was held by Mr A. B. Bailey, District Coroner. Evidence was o given that the deceased was recovering from an attack of pleurisy and on Monday morning went for a walk for the first time since her illness. She did not return when expected, and her daughter found her lying down, apparently unconscious, and making a gurgling noise in the throat. Ineffectual efforts were made to revive her and she died within a few minutes. She was last seen by a doctor on February 15. Dr C. T. Little, of Waikari, stated that the deceased had been attended for pleurisy by his locum tenens. He had never attended her himself. Death was due to heart failure from weakness following an attack of pleurisy. ... • The Coroner returned a verdict m accordance with the medical testimony. The late Mrs Gibb was the wife of Mr James L. Gibb and a sister of the late Mr G. L. Roberts, who was killed in a dray accident at Scargill last Saturday week.
