FIRES.

FIRE AT TIMARU. [Per Press Association.] TIMARU, February 24. A serious fire occurred early ■ this morning in tlie premises of Messrs W. A. Pearson and Co., men’s outfitters. The building was completely destroyed, and the shops adjoining (L. B. James, chemist; George Pearson/fancy goods; and Hutton and Co., booksellers) were a good deal damaged by fire and water.

The insurance on W. A. Pearson and Co.’s stock was with the Royal Office, £500; Commercial Union, £350, Alliance. £150; Norwich Union, £200; Soutn British, £100; Phoenix, £100; total, £ISOO. The building belonged to the M’Keon’s trustees and was insured for £SOO. The damage to L. B. James’s and Hutton /and Co. is estimated at £350, all covered by Insurance. W. A. Pearson and Co. estimate their loss at £IOOO above the insurances.

CAVERSHAM DWELLING BURNED.

[Per Press Association.] DUNEDIN, February 24. A fire occurred early this morning in a four-roomed dwellinghouse at Caversham, owned by Mr 8. S. Myers and occupied by Mr S. Munns. Two rooms were completely destroyed. The insurances were:—On the house £250 in the New Zealand Office and £l5O on the furniture in the Victoria Office.

A room of an empty three-roomed house at the corner of Buffon Street and Wilson’s Road, Opawa, ivas badly damaged by fire yesterday afternoon at half-past two. „The cottage was owned by Mr John Dawe. A four-roomed dwelling together with furniture, piano and personal effects owned and occupied by Clement Cadogan, was destroyed by fire at three o’clock yesterday afternoon at Darfield. No one was present at the time of the outbreak, and its origin is unknown.
