WAIMAKARIRI-ASHLEY WATER SUPPLY.
TO THE EDITOR, Sie,—Allow me to notice “ Whitebait’s** letter in yours of Feb. 21. He has ingeniously tried to draw a ted herring across the scent; but it won’t do. The question is: Is it fair to charge as much for aa eighth of an acre that does not require any %vater bb for thirty or forty acres that require irrigating? The gentlemen composing the Water Board, I am quite sure, do not need “ Whitebait” or any other of his class to champion their cause. They are above suspicion, and nobody but an invertebrate creature like your correspondent would think of mooting such a question. It is all right. 1 have beeu a ratepayer ever since tho Road Board was established, and am in the water-race district. That ought to 1)3 legal enough. In conclusion, lam quits agreeable to the water being procured, but I only want to pay my proper share towards it. There is only one person in the district capable of penning such an idiotic epistle as that of “ Whitebait,” so I have no need to enquire from yourself who it is.—l am, &0., RATEPAYER.
