LYTTELTON ELECTION.
TO THB BDITOB.
Sib,— Mr Harry AUwright, in ad drawing the eleotore yesterday at the declaration of the poll, stated ''that he had been blackguarded by his opponents in the election, and also by a section of the Press in Christchurch.” As one who was present at all the meetings of Messrs Webb, and AUwright, the candidates, 1 say, without fear of contra* diction, that the only instance where blackguarding took place was at Mr All wright's own meetings, more especially at the one held two days before the election. So far as regards Mr AUwright representing the majority of the Ly ttelton electors, he certainly does not. He was the nominee and a strong supporter of the present Ministry, and his. two opponents were not their supporters, and they polled 494 rotes together against his 259 which may be oaUed Ministerial rotes—so that it is quite clear he does not really represent Lyttelton. He only got in by the merest side wind, as, if either of the other candidates had stood alone against him, they would hare licked him by nearly two to one. I am, &0., _ A WBBBITB.
