ALFORD FOREST SCHOOL COMMITTEE.

TO THB BDIXOB. Sib,— Please allow me a email space in your valuable paper, to reply to Mr Knight's letter of Deo. 10, and to snow the public a few facts of the case. Mr Knight accuses me of not taking stock of all books with himself. Now, in the first place, he was well aware that I was away from home at the time that his duties expired on Oct. 31, and on the following Saturday I sent word by his son to ask him to come to the school, and hand over any books he had. This he refused to do, but informed me Mr Stack had taken charge of them, and by that means obtained his cheque. He wishes the public to infer that a portion had been stolen because the door was not looked 5 at the same time he had either lost or broken the key himself. Now, as a fact, a purse containing £5, a parcel of lollies, ana an attractive new novel were exposed in the book-case daring the ten days referred to by Mr Knight. As far as the scholars are concerned, surely they would have preferred the lollies instead of school books; and, if the adults were the guilty ones, they would have extended their preference to the purse containing £5; but, strange to say, both lollies and money remained intact in the book-case. —I am, &0., W. T. CHAPMAN, Chairman of Committee. [We have excised portions of our correspondent’s letter, for obvious reasons. Bd. L.T.]
