WELLINGTON.

The of the 28fch ult. has the following paragraphs:— . Me. St. Hill,R.M.—We regret to hear that Mr. Sk Hill, the Resident Magistrate for this City, has been suffering for some time from a rheumatic affection, which is so severe as to cause his friends considerable anxiety. Mr. St. Hill was removed on board the White Swan last Monday, for Ahuriri, in the hope that the change may prove beneficial. Mr. St. Hill has devoted a considerable number of years to the performance of the duties of various official situations, with scarcely any relaxation, but it is Hoped that entire rest may soon restore him.

J Capture of D'Aecy.—Corporal Te Hope ref turned from the SouricPon Wednesday last, having i been successful in capturing D'Arcy, one of the ; escaped, chain gang. D'Arcy was taken near to I* the Kai. Koras by the corporal and a maori lad. * Shields is still at large, having gone another way, i but the Nelson police are on his track. Te Hope •j deserves great praise for his intrepidity, and it is to j be hoped he will be permitted to return to follow. „ up Shields, the only one now at large. Launch.—On Wednesday last, a small vessel i of about 18 tons, was launched from the Building yaid of Messrs. Dryden & Thirkell, Te Aro. She 1 was built expressly for Mr. George Hough ton, is i copper fastened throughout, and the superior man- % ncr in which she has been finished reflects very v| great credit upon her builders. We have not -J^ hitherto noticed the slip which has been erected by *« this firm, and which is constantly being used for J naulmg vessels upon for repair, cleaning, &c. The 1§ schooners Canterbury, Shepherdess, Emerald, and X| a host of, other crafts have been on it, and received . I the necessary repairs, and the superior workmanjjf &bip, combined with expedition used in completing \i *'ie'r w°Vk, has given very general satisfaction. •m We are glad.to see the enterprising efforts of these \| new comers so well rewarded, as their slip has % afforded great accommodation to the coasting craft ¥j of the port.
