This delivery to include all letters and newspapers from other P6st Offices, handed by the postmaster to the contractor. 2. CHPJSTCIIURCH AND KAI4.POI MAIL. Tenders will be received at this office until noon on Tuesday, the 23rd day of March, fort for the conveyance of a mail between Christchurch and Kaiapoi twice a week for 12 months irom the first day of April, 3858. The mail to start from Christch urch on Mondays and Thursdays, and from Kaiapoi on Tuesdays and Fridays at 12 o'clock. 3. KAIAPOI AND RANGIORA MAIL. Tenders will be received at this office until noon on Thursday, the loth day of April 1858 for the conveyance of mails between Kaiapoi and Rangiora twice a week for 11 months from the ]st day of May, 1858. Mails to start from Kaiapoi on Mondays and lnursdays, half an hour after the arrival of the mail from Christchurch, and from Ran«i O ra on Tuesdays and Fridays, so as to reach Kaiapoi by 11.30 a.ia. 4. LYTTELTON AND AKAROA MAIL. Tenders will be received at this office until noon on Tuesday, the 23rd day of March, for the conveyance of a mail weekly between Lvt telton and Akaroa for 12 months from the Ist day of April, 1858, by one of the following routes: ° Ist. By the present roufe, viz., by boat to Pigeon Bay, thence by land to Duvaucheile' Bay, thence by boat to Akaroa, or varying this latter part of the route, by land from Duvaucheile Bay to Akaroa. 2nd. From Lyttelton to Purao (or Rhodes Bay), from Purao by the direct road to Duvaucheile Bay, thence to Akaroa by land or water. 3rd. To Purao and thence by land : (a), by the usual foot track via Port Levy to Pigeon Bay and Akaroa. (b), to Purau and thence across to Port Levy valley, pi-oceeding up the valley into the Akaroa and Purau direct road. _ If the route proposed be ei-ther from Purao direct or from Purao to Port Levy and up the I valley to the direct road:— Tenders must provide for receipt and delivery of the Pigeon Bay mail on the journey eitherway between Akaroa and Lyttelton. It is believed that from the Akaroa direct road the contractor could, without much loss of time, branch off to Pigeon Bay, or might arrange for a messenger to meet him at the junction of the roads. An open bag to be taken up and delivered at Duvaucheile Bay, if required. No mail to exceed 40 pounds in weight. In any contract for conveying the mails by boat via Pigeon Bay, it will be required that the contractors undertake from and after the Ist day of November, 1858, to convey the mail from Purau by the Akaroa direct road upon one month's previous notice given by the Postmaster requiring him so to do. If the contractor decline to carry the mail by this route his contract to expire on the 31st day of December, 185 S. Three hours to be allowed after the delivery of a mail to the Postmaster for the return mail to be made up. The mail to start from Lyttelton every Wednesday and from Akaroa every Tuesday. Tenders for this service must include the cost of conveyance of branch mails to and from Pigeon Bay, and must state the route proposed to be adopted and the spot at which the branch mails will join the main line. 5. AKAROA & OKAIN'S BAY MAIL. Tenders will be received at this Office until noon on Thursday the 15th day of April next, for the conveyance of a mail weekly between Akaroa and Okain's Bay for 11 months from the Ist day of May, ISSS. The mail to arrive at Akaroa from Okain's Bay every Friday, and to return to Okain's Bay not later than the Saturday forenoon following. No Mail to exceed 28 pounds in weight. 6. CHRISTCHURCH & TIMARU MAIL. Tenders will be received at this office until noon, on Thursday, the 15th day of April next, for the conveyance of a mail fortnightly betwen Christchurch and Timaru for 11 mouths from the Ist day of May, 185 S. The tenders to state separately the charges of conveyance, if— (1) The mail to start from Christchurch : e\'t rv alternate Wednesday at noon, commencing ou the first Wednesday in May, and from Timaru on the following Wednesday, weather permitting. (2) Or, to return from Timaru not later than twenty-four hours after arrival there. Except owing to unavoidable accident the mail not to be more than three clays in summer and four days in winter on the route ; (summer months to bo considered from Ist day of November, to the 31st day of March ; winter, Ist day of April, to 31st day of October.)
